Biography

Kevin Mitnick is famed for being the FBI’s most-wanted hacker, having spent many years of his life hacking digital resources of businesses to gain unauthorised access to private emails and computer networks. Arrested in 1995 after a relentless pursuit by the FBI, Kevin was held in prison for charges of wire fraud on 14 counts, unauthorised access devices on eight counts and several other offences. Spending eight months in solitary confinement, Kevin is now the CEO of Mitnick Security Consulting and a speaker for a range of corporate events- sharing his insights into social engineering, hacking and more.When he was just 12 years old, Kevin joined the world of hacking after he bypassed the punch card system on his local Los Angeles buses. Purchasing his own ticket punch, Kevin dumpster-dived for unused transfer strips which he then used to get free transport.


Before long, Kevin became a mastermind in social engineering, using his skills to obtain passwords, usernames and phone numbers to gain unauthorised access to computer networks. In 1979, Kevin hacked into a computer network for the first time, gaining access to Digital Equipment Corporation’s computer system. From that point on, Kevin hacked into various other computer networks, including Pacific Bell voicemail computers, and used cloned cellular phones.After being pursued by the FBI, Kevin was arrested for his cybercrimes. After his release, Kevin has gone on to be the Chief Hacking Officer of KnowBe4 and authored several books documenting his story. Kevin is the author of titles The Art of Deception: Controlling the Human Element of Security, The Art of Intrusion: The Real Stories Behind the Exploits of Hackers, Intruders & Deceivers, Ghost in the Wires: My Adventures as the World’s Most Wanted Hacker and The Art of Invisibility.
